Name: Damara Tansy Barrons - most everyone calls her by her second name instead of her fist.

Rank: Lady, Viscount's heir

Age: 29

Bio:

Born the eldest daughter of Henry Barrons, Viscount Ludlow and Catherine Barrons, Lady Ludlow, Tansy had a lot of promise as a small child. She was a bright happy child that got on well with most everyone, and she seemed to have a good future ahead of her as her parents were rich, and her title would bring her a better-than-average match in the marriage mart. That changed soon after her eighth birthday, when she contracted polio. It wasn't severe enough to cripple her, but it lay her low for months on end in bed. Her parents left for another of their homes with little Laura, her baby sister, in order not to catch the disease. She eventually recovered, but she would never again be able to run again as she had wanted to, or ride horses, or dance or even just play with her friends. Her family, not quite sure what to do with their little pale almost-invalid, mostly left her in the care of nurses and tutors, and she rarely moved from her room.

It was her great-uncle Edward, Lord Huntingdon that came to her rescue. He swept into her life like a chill, cantankerous wind, and bullied her out of the bedroom. He started forcing knowledge into her head - great works of fiction, the sciences, history, languages - but the best thing he taught her is just because she's a shell of what she was before doesn't mean that she can't be something else. Her family caught up with the effort later on, and began pressing her as well. It took her many years of painful exercise and intensive study to get where she is now, and at times she's felt like giving up, but somehow she's always managed to take heart and carry on, no matter how much her legs shrieked or her arms protested.

These days she leaves being the beauty of the family to Laura, and settles instead for the translation work her father brings home from his military career and the odd, argumentative evenings with Great-Uncle Edward. She still tires easily and can't be described as the most coordinated figure on a ball floor, and she generally sits out everything but the first dance.

Personality:

The illness tempered her natural exuberance into a quiet dignity of sorts, and taught her to be more kind than she otherwise would have been. She converses easily with most everyone, and at times seems to understand them better than they do themselves. She does have her moments when the pain's extremely bad and she tries to ignore it, which makes her snappish and stubborn as a mule.

Description:

Her face and form are less beautiful for the pain she's lived with almost her whole life, and she doesn't have the truly graceful carriage that's so looked for in the typical English rose. Her hair is generously described as chestnut and she's thin rather than slim. Her eyes liven up her appearance though - they're black-brown and shining so fiercely with her force of will that at times, it distracts from her other shortcomings.
